Moving Out
published by HarperCollins

It's 1951, and Philip lives in a cramped London flat with his parents and nan. London is dirty, noisy and dangerous, but Philip loves it: there are bomb sites to play on, and all his friends are there.

But Mum and Dad want to move to a New Town in the country, and Philip will have to leave his whole life behind.

How can Philip persuade Mum and Dad to stay in the city?

I loved doing the research for this book. Part of it takes place at the Festival of Britain on London's South Bank, and I found a website where people had posted their childhood memories of visiting the festival. What a gift for a novelist!
